This Metroid screenprint was created for the Gallery1988 show "NES One Sheet." Metroid is such an iconic and genre-defining game, and I was more than excited to pay homage to Samus. I remember as a kid being amazed to learn that Samus Aran was a woman within that iconic suit, and it made so much sense to later learn that the creators were big fans of Alien and Samus was inspired by Ellen Ripley and that Ridley was a nod to director Ridley Scott. The game was created in 1986 and released by Nintendo in Japan on the Famicon system, but didn’t come to the Nintendo Entertainment System until August 1987. Since this show was specifically NES One sheet, I went with the 1987 date.
